The United boss said that fans shouldn’t expect too much from the club’s latest signing next season.

Manchester United fans went into overdrive after the announcement of their first big signing of the summer. There is a lot of hype around Dutch winger Depay, but Louis van Gaal hinted that the youngster may need some time to adapt to the Premier League.

Writing in the programme for the clash against Arsenal at the weekend, LVG Depay won’t just waltz into the first team upon arriving at Old Trafford.

“We have a number of young players in our first-team squad who have benefitted from experiencing first-team football this season and that will help their development going into next season.”

“Memphis Depay is a young player who has come through the PSV Eindhoven academy system. I worked with Memphis during last summer’s World Cup with the Netherlands and he has great potential.”

Van Gall then broke down his plans for the hot prospect next in his inaugural season in the Premier League. He revealed that he plans on developing Depay as a footballer so that he will be able to set the league alight.

“The plan is to help him develop as a player, but we must all be patient. The Premier League is very different from any other league and it will take time for him to fully adapt to the pace and unforgiving nature of football in this country.”

There you have it, LVG thinks Depay has the potential to be a world-beater, but he’s just not quite there yet.
