The only thing that can get Manchester United excited these days is an update on a crocked defender.
It’s been several months since Luke Shaw suffered a horrendous leg injury in United’s ill-fated Champions League campaign.
The former Southampton defender broke his leg in two places during the clash with PSV last September, and it was expected that he would be ruled out until this summer.
However, Louis van Gaal’s excitement levels have not been this high since he watched the opening episode of Season Four of House of Cards with a positive update on Shaw’s current fitness.
The Dutchman has explained to MUTV that the left-back could yet feature this season, if his recovery continues as well as it has to date.
The England international resumed training last week, as his return to first full-team action draws ever closer, Van Gaal is not ruling him out of playing some part in the closing weeks of the season, even if it doubtful.
“Shaw is now training on the pitch with the physiotherapist; it’s not with a trainer-coach, so that’s the difference. But he’s going great, it’s unbelievable.”
United face Everton in the FA Cup semi-final next week, and Shaw might be able to feature for the club if they were to reach the decider on the 12 May at Wembley.
