Louis van Gaal is busy getting ready for the new season but he’s still taken time out to have a serious sitdown with a journalist after last night’s win over Barcelona in the USA Cup.
The Dutchman has had a good summer on the transfer front but it seems that any chance of luring a former Old Trafford legend back to the club are dead in the water.
Ronaldo is being constantly linked with a move back to England but LvG has poured a big glass of cold water all over those hot transfer rumours by suggesting a deal to the get the winger back to his old stomping ground will never happen,
“He may come. But it’s not possible.”
“Because you have the club, Ronaldo, and then you have Manchester United, and how much Manchester United want to spend.”
Van Gaal has had success where-ever he has managed, and his comments about how he’d like his career to end should be music to the ears of the Old Trafford faithful
“I hope I shall end my career with the championship of course, that would be fantastic, because that is also the aim of Manchester United.”
“My personal aim is that I shall be a manager with four championships in four different countries and in my opinion the best countries of Europe.”
Van Gall has also laid down a bit of challenge to Wayne Rooney to score some more goals for the club.
The former Bayern Munich boss suggest that the club don’t need to sign a new striker after the sale of Robin van Persie because Rooney told him he could be the club’s main goalscorer
“Rooney says that he scores at the minimum 25 goals. Last season I had a top scorer with 12 goals [Rooney] and van Persie had 10 goals. So when I have a striker that scores 25 and Rooney is more or less saying that, I am better off.”
“Not only Rooney has to score, but other players have to score and we have to concede less.”
He also thinks the club need more Neymar’s and less Ashley Youngs.
We can use much more creativity with it. So now we have Wayne [Rooney], [Juan] Mata, Depay, [Ashley] Young, Januzaj, Wilson, [Ander] Herrera.
“And so we have to compare. Young has had a fantastic season, but he is not a Neymar and we have to compete with that kind of class.”
“We have to look for more balance in the team and for more creativity. The second goal against Barcelona was a marvellous goal. And we need not only what we have trained in the training sessions, but also we need the creation of the players themselves.
“And then that has to be a mix. Therefore, you need creative players. For example, Chelsea have [Eden] Hazard, Willian and Oscar. There is a lot of creativity there.
“And you need that because you have to disorganise teams that park the bus. Next year there might be more teams who are parking the bus.”
