Louis van Gaal fractures relationship with Wayne Rooney after embarrassing incident at Stoke

There is a right way to do things and a wrong way.

And it seems that Louis van Gaal has found a third; his way.

The Dutchman is becoming increasingly unpopular at Old Trafford as his Manchester United side are now winless in seven games.

The former Bayern Munich boss saw his side lose most recently to Stoke on Boxing Day 2-0, with Wayne Rooney dropped from the starting XI for the match.

Normally players are told they will be omitted from the starting team hours before kick off or perhaps even the day before.

But according to the Daily Mirror, Rooney was only informed that he would be watching kick-off from the bench when he arrived at the ground an hour before hand.

The striker was stunned at the decision as he had no indication that he would be omitted from the team’s initial tactical plan for the key game.

The incident came just days after the striker had organised a players’ meeting to try and rally around the Dutchman, but the embarrassing faux-pas is likely to deepen division within the squad at how players are being treated.

Manchester United face Chelsea this evening, with reports today suggesting the Dutchman will not be in charge for much longer regardless of what happens.
