Loris Karius produced the best moment of quality in a dour Merseyside derby on Saturday afternoon at Goodison Park.
After 23 minutes of the goalless draw, Karius pulled off a flying finger-tip save to deny Yannick Bolasie. The Everton winger cut inside on his right foot and hit a curling shot from just outside the Liverpool penalty area. There were several players blocking Karius’ view of the shot, but the German goalkeeper scrambled across his line to tip the ball around the post.
He has received plenty of criticism since joining Liverpool in 2016, but this save was as good as any you’ll see this weekend.
In fact, Karius’ save was so spectacular, it drew comparisons with David de Gea.
The Manchester United goalkeeper produces acrobatic finger-tip saves on a weekly basis, and has proved invaluable to his team over the past few seasons. With Manuel Neuer still on the sidelines with injury, De Gea is widely considered to be the best goalkeeper in the world right now.
To be compared to him is arguably the ultimate compliment one can pay a goalkeeper. All Karius has to do now is to make saves like that every week for the next couple of seasons.

That Karius save was top-drawer. About as good as anything I've seen from De Gea recently.

Liverpool fans saying if it was De Gea that made that save…please can you appreciate your goalie without mentioning De Gea. Karius made one good save and he's been mentioned in the same breath as David. Abomination.
