He is said to feel “let down.”
Loris Karius’ time at Anfield could be coming to an end, and not necessarily because of the mistakes he has made. The German goalkeeper is reportedly unhappy with Liverpool’s decision to sign a new goalkeeper and is now “considering his future” at the club.
Liverpool broke the world transfer record for a goalkeeper when they landed Alisson Becker from Roma last week. The Brazilian cost €75m and will undoubtedly be the club’s number one ‘keeper next season.
A report in The Telegraph claims that the move for Alisson has left Karius questioning his place at the club and has caused an issue with Klopp.
According to the report:
- Karius is “considering his future” at the club after Liverpool signed Alisson.
- He could leave before the transfer window closes on August 9, and is set to hold talks with Klopp.
- The report claims that Karius is “bitterly disappointed” with Klopp’s decision to sign Alisson. He is said to be “shocked by the lack of clarity” over the move for the Brazilian.
- The former Mainz goalkeeper is understood to feel “let down” by Liverpool’s decision to buy a new goalkeeper.
- Simon Mignolet has been linked with a move away from the club, but it appears Karius is now the most likely goalkeeper to depart.

If Karius is as shocked by Alisson’s arrival as the report states, it seems somewhat peculiar as Liverpool had been linked with a move for Alisson for several months. Their interest in the goalkeeper pre-dates Karius’ errors in the Champions League final.
The German made two mistakes in the game against Real Madrid. He rolled the ball into the path of Karim Benzema for Madrid’s opening goal, and dropped Gareth Bale’s shot into the net. According to Liverpool, Karius suffered a concussion in the final.
Karius has since made errors in Liverpool’s pre-season games, including one against Borussia Dortmund in a friendly in the United States. Liverpool’s other goalkeeper Simon Mingolet has also failed to convince during his time at the club, and has been linked with a move away.
