Who doesn’t love a good transfer saga?
Well, Virgil van Dijk has made sure that he will be the primary character in the most dramatic transfer of the summer.
The 26-year-old has impressed in the Premier League since moving to Southampton back in 2015, so much so that Liverpool are looking to splash out a cool £60m or so on the defender.
He is possibly worth it, few will doubt his credentials after seeing him play at St Mary’s.
Well, after Southampton reported Liverpool for tapping their player, with the Anfield club publicly apologising, it looked as if the deal was off.
But now it looks as if it is back on after the latest news coming from the Southampton camp.
Sky Sports are reporting that the Dutch defender has been left out of Southampton’s pre season training squad.
It was first reported that he was left out of the squad a couple of days ago but Sky Sports have now confirmed the reports.
The club are currently in France as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League season which kicks off on 11 August and the loss of van Dijk will no doubt be a massive blow to Mauricio Pellegrino’s side.
