Liverpool’s new third kit is an old retro throwback

Wayne Farry

Decent effort.

Yesterday saw the Gods of football kit lore grace us with a fresh beauty in the form of Wigan Athletic’s new home jersey. The blue, white and green kit harks back to the Latics’ 1995 home kit and has gone down a treat with supporters.

Today, as the ashes cool on England’s World Cup campaign, we have been given another gifts from the wise ones up high. This time it’s Liverpool‘s new third kit.

Like Wigan’s new kit, this one pulls at the nostalgic heart strings of supporters by using the template from the team’s fondly remembered away kit which they wore between 1989 and 1991.

Liverpool's new third kit

Like that 20-year-old kit, the new one features the classic white and grey template, with dark grey sleeves and a red Liverpool crest and sponsor logos.

The retro look will delight fans of vintage kits, which have increased in popularity in recent years, and influenced the design of the vast majority of international kits featured in the World Cup.
