Liverpool would be on course to do something remarkable if all Mark Lawrenson’s prediction’s had come in

'Fair and balanced'

Simon Lloyd

Mark Lawrenson is, despite what some mean people might say about him, a football expert.

Our viewing experience is unquestionably enriched when Lawro is on co-commentary on punditry duty and the weekly football predictions he does for the BBC are almost always dead on. Well, sort of.

As the season nears its end, some people might be interested to look at how the Premier League table might look if every single one of the 59-year-old’s predictions had come in.

One of those people was Mr Keiran Pedley.  Not only did he look at the table, he also went to the trouble of sharing an image of it in the tweet below. As he points out, it’s Liverpool – the club at which Lawro spent seven years of his playing career – that top it.

Not only that, he also points out that after 27 matches, Lawro hasn’t once predicted a defeat for his former club. This would leave them just 11 games shy of matching Arsenal’s invincible achievements of 2003/2004

Liverpool are, mathematically at least, still in with a chance of winning the league. Unfortunately, the five defeats they have suffered haven’t helped them in their bid to end their wait for a league title. Ahead of kick off against Burnley on Sunday afternoon, Jürgen Klopp’s men were 14 points adrift of league leaders, Chelsea.
