It is a battle for marginal gains at the top of the Premier League.
In the battle for success in high level sport, there can be no stone left unturned. If you want to be the best, you need to cover all bases; from groundsmen to coaches to physios to dietitians, you need the cream of the crop. It’s all about marginal gains, which go way beyond tactics.
Manchester City have done well to maximise the output of their extremely talented squad, aided by the addition of state of the art facilities and the recruitment of the best staff to work with Pep Guardiola in their pursuit of world domination. However, they have recently taken a blow at the hands of title rivals Liverpool.
Jürgen Klopp’s side have poached head physio Lee Nobes from City, according to Training Ground Guru, in what could prove to be a significant coup.
Training Ground Guru report that Nobes said goodbye to his colleagues after City’s 3-1 derby win over Manchester United ahead of his move to Liverpool.
Nobes spent 11 years with Man City after joining from Oldham in 2007 and has worked with the club throughout their transformation from mid-table nobodies to title winners under several coaches, from Sven Goran-Eriksson to Roberto Mancini, to Guardiola.
He will reportedly start in his new role at Liverpool on November 26th, after the international break. Nobes replaces Matt Konopinski at Anfield after the former Liverpool Head Physio left to join the Football Association in September.
Nobes featured prominently in the recent Amazon Prime documentary All or Nothing, which covered City’s 2017/18 title winning campaign. He was often seen accompanying injured players to visit one of Guardiola’s most trusted consultants, Dr Ramon Cugat in Barcelona.
