Liverpool might be about to do a nice bit of business to get a Real Madrid midfielder

Now this is the sort of deal that Liverpool fans can get behind.

Last summer, Brendan Rodgers was criticised for not only buying second-tier talents, but for buying second-tier talents at top-tier prices. Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic and Dejan Lovren all cost over £20 million but if these reports are to be believed, they might be adding a classy central midfielder for a good price.

Asier Illarramendi has struggled for game time since moving from Real Sociedad to Real Madrid and according to reports in Spain he can be gotten for as cheaply as £15m and Liverpool is his most likely destination.

Although James Milner apparently wants to play in the centre of midfield for Liverpool, Illarramendi would be another good replacement for the departed Steven Gerrard.
