This sort of thing crosses a line

Needless to say, Fellaini had the last laugh

A lot happened on Saturday night. Mohamed Salah’s injury, Sergio Ramos’ many instances of shithousery, Bale scoring one of the best goals of all time, Loris Karius’ two massive errors. There was a lot to digest.

People are still pouring over the details, debating the extent to which Sergio Ramos intended to yank Salah’s arm out of its socket, watching Bale’s goal on a loop, again and again, and again. But something else happened that night that on any other occasion would have been a lot more prominent in the news.

Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini attended the match in Kiev as a spectator, but as is always the case for him, it was difficult to blend into the crowd and go unnoticed. Liverpool fans spotted him a mile off and took the opportunity to hurl some abuse his way.

“You Manc bastard!”, the Liverpool fans chanted at the Belgium international.

Fellaini handled himself well, despite being harassed while just going about his business. Emotions were obviously running high for Liverpool fans before the biggest game of their season, but this sort of targeted abuse off the pitch crosses a line. Needless to say, Fellaini had the last laugh.
