It was one of those great European nights at Anfield. One of those great European nights at any stadium.
Over 40,000 Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund fans packed into Anfield to tonight to see one of the games of the season.
The roar from the crowd after Dejan Lovren’s last gasp header could surely have been heard all the way in Mainz, as Jurgen Klopp’s team secured a famous win.
We were not alone in thinking there was no way it was going to happen. Liverpool were 2-0 at the break after conceding two goals inside the opening nine minutes, and then going 3-1 down early in the second half.
They needed three goals to rescue the tie. The clock was ticking.

But much like that famous night in 2005 when a half-time team-talk from Rafa Benitez inspired Liverpool to glory, Jurgen Klopp also had some simple words for Liverpool players to inspire them to get back into the tie.
Speaking after the game, Liverpool’s goal heroes Divock Origi and Dejan Lovren explained the simple, but emotional, message from the German.
“3-0 at half-time, and the coach said we had to create the moment, where we could tell our grandchildren and make it a special night for the fans and we believed in it I think. When we scored the first goal we all believed it was going to be a special moment.”
Lovren chimed in and explained how the players felt at the break.
“We said at half-time, we have nothing to lose, we need just to believe so a great effort from everyone and we deserved to win.”
Miracles do happen, and Liverpool, again, are proof of that.
