When it rains it pours.
Liverpool have been slapped with a number of injuries to high profile players, making them a doubt for their Merseyside derby against Everton in the Saturday early kick-off game.
Liverpool got off to a flying start this season but after a controversial defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and a frustrating draw away to Brighton, they aren’t looking just as formidable as they were.
This has been compounded by the fact that five key players are currently suffering injuries, and are either a doubt, or completely ruled out of the Derby this weekend.
Andy Robertson
This is a major loss for The Reds, as Robertson has been on hot form so far this season, and they rely so heavily on their full backs to bomb forward and get ahead of the game.
The Scotland skipper picked up a rather serious shoulder injury on international duty, and currently has his arm in a sling, meaning that Jurgen Klopp will be calling upon Konstantinos Tsimikas to fulfil this role for the next few games at least.
Cody Gakpo
The Flying Dutchman picked up a knee injury when he scored Liverpool’s equalising goal against Tottenham, but the international break means that he has only missed one game for his side.
Although back in full training, it is very unlikely that he will start for the Everton game, and at best will be an option coming off the bench.
Thiago
The Spanish midfielder has yet to play a single second for Liverpool this season, and with Curtis Jones still suspended from his sending off in the Spurs game, they could really do with the bolster in midfield.
In fact, it could be another month before we see the midfield magician back in a red jersey.
Stefan Bajcetic
This young man was something of a saviour last season when Liverpool had zero energy in their midfield, and he was graduated from the academy to become a key player.
However, he missed the start of this season with an injury, only to return for two matches before picking up an issue with his calf, so it means we won’t be seeing him against Everton either.
Caoimhin Kelleher
The Irishman missed Liverpool’s last two games before the international breaks and his injury was deemed serious enough that he couldn’t even travel with Ireland for their Euro 2024 qualifiers.
If anything were to happen to Allisson, the club’s number one, then Liverpool could be in a very sticky situation.
