Liverpool fans had a lot to say about the new camera angle at Anfield

Wayne Farry

What a difference a few feet make, especially to the Anfield camera.

Perception is everything. We are basic beings, made up of viscera and flesh and bone and warts, and our eyes are not as sophisticated as we like to think they are. The way we view something makes a massive difference to how we feel about it, hence the anger at the height and angle of the camera at Anfield last season.

The angle, which peered down upon the pitch like a pigeon eagerly waiting for someone to walk directly beneath it or like an astronaut on the International Space Station peering down at the imperceptible humans below.

It made people feel a little odd, and left them asking questions such as “why am I so high up?”, “how did I get up here?” and “why do I feel so queasy?”.

Well, it seems like someone has listened to them because the new season has brought a new Anfield camera angle with it.

It was immediately noticeable upon kick-off between Liverpool and West Ham United on Sunday, and supporters were quick to give their thanks for having the opportunity to once again watch a football match from an acceptable distance.
