Liverpool set to sign their third “wonderkid” this week

So many wonderkids

Robert Redmond

Is there a more unwanted tag in football than “wonderkid”?

If you’re bestowed the title it means you’re obviously an excellent young footballer, but it can define a player’s career.

Both Lionel Messi and Freddie Adu were dubbed ‘wonderkids’, one is the best footballer to ever play the game, the other now plays in the Finnish fourth division.

Liverpool have already signed two promising young footballers this week, Bobby Adekanye and Lennon Brooks, and look set to add a third. None of them will want to be the next Freddie Adu.

The club are close to agreeing a €700,000 deal with Internacional for Allan Rodrigues de Souza.

The 18 year old Brazilian midfielder impressed the club during the Frenz International Cup in Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur earlier this year. A tournament featuring both Liverpool and the Brazilian side’s under 18 teams.

Allan’s highlight reel isn’t exactly packed with jaw-dropping moments, but he must be talented if the club are prepared to sign him.

The player appears to be left-footed, and takes a number of set pieces in the clip below. We’re not sure if that qualifies him for wonderkid status, but he does sound like player that appears five years into a game of Football Manager, so close enough.
