Lionel Messi’s reason for dyeing his hair blonde sounds like an entry in hormonal teen’s diary

New year, new me

Despite being one of the greatest footballers of all time, Lionel Messi goes through the same thought process as everyone else when he decides to get his haircut.

As you’re well aware, you don’t just visit the barbers without putting an incredible amount of thought into it beforehand. The act of having the hair on your head trimmed, shaped and styled is a deeply spiritual experience that should be symbolic of where you are in life.

When you sit down in that leather throne, you ready yourself for the traditional consultation with your barber (or spirit guide). They will then ask you how close you are to achieving your life goals and will choose what hairstyle best suits your aura depending on what answer they give.

Oh no wait, I’ve got that one completely wrong. A haircut is simply a haircut.

Well apparently it’s not as simple as that for Messi, who gave dyeing his hair blonde is both cringe-worthy and cliched in equal measure. He made the startling revelation on Argentinian TV.

“I made a change to start from zero. A lot had gone on, things had happened, and I said to myself: “I have to break this and start again,'”

Sigh.

Maybe we’re being too harsh on Leo. Perhaps he’s been asked so many questions about his hair as opposed to what he does on the football pitch that he decided to have a little fun with his answer.

We sincerely hope that’s the case.
