The French sports newspaper gives notoriously harsh ratings.
Despite an encouraging performance last night against the World Cup runners-up, Ireland came away from the Aviva with nothing after France snatched a 1-0 win.
However, despite their win, the French national team didn’t pose as big a threat as was expected, with star man Kylian Mbappé kept quiet for most of the 90 minutes.
French daily sports newspaper L’Equipe, well known for their harsh player rating system, had some interesting ratings from the Euro 2024 qualifier.

Ireland overall received a 4.6/10 for their performance, which is pretty average for a L’Equipe score. Star man Evan Ferguson got a disappointing 3/10, however he was in good company as French captain Mbappé received the same score. Ferguson struggled to get into the game with those around him failing to bring him into action for the most part.
The right side of Ireland’s team received the most praise, with John Egan, Seamus Coleman and Chiedozie Ogbene all getting a score of 6/10. Ogbene was voted Man of the Match last night and ran Theo Hernandez (rated 3/10) ragged.
In their own match report, L’Equipe called the Irish performance “brave” and said France owed their victory to goalscorer Benjamin Pavard (7/10) and goalkeeper Mike Maignan (8/10), who miraculously denied a late Nathan Collins header and hold on to victory.
