Neil Lennon struck by a coin thrown from crowd during Edinburgh derby

Michael Corry

Neil Lennon is no stranger to controversy…

The former Celtic captain is currently manager of Hibernian FC who took on Edinburgh rivals Hearts tonight in a fiesty encounter that ended 0-0.

In a game that saw Hibs striker Florian Kamberi sent off for a second bookable offence, before Hearts had a late winner from Clevid Dikamona denied for reasons unbeknown to the everyone, the main talking point will be Lennon’s reaction after the goal was ruled out.

The Armagh man began goading the crowd after the goal had been disallowed before he was struck by a coin thrown from the crowd.

It was an unfortunate end to a game that saw an extremely heart warming moment prior the kickoff as Lennon and opposing manager Craig Levein stood side by side on the edge of the pitch for a minutes silence following the tragedy in Leicester that saw their owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha lose his life.

Lennon was a former player for the Foxes winning two League Cups with the side back in his pomp, whilst Levein used to manage the Premiership side.
