Leicester City’s fairytale title win wasn’t the most lucrative campaign in the 2015/16 Premier League season.
Far from it.
Second place Arsenal will top the Premier League prize money table, while champions Leicester will finish up in fifth place, according to projections made by the Independent‘s Simon Rice,
The reason for the Foxes surprisingly low standing lies with the good ol’ idiot box. Each team in the league earns a base £55 million payout from the television deal, while bonuses are allocated to teams based on where they finished and how many times their matches featured on BT Sport and Sky Sports.

Rice explained that each league position is worth £1,236,083, while a live broadcast pays out £750,000. There are also additional bonuses coming from appearances on BBC’s Match of the Day.
Arsenal have featured on a staggering 27 live broadcasts this season, meaning they take home a whopping £21.8m from this stream, while Leicester’s 15 live TV appearances saw them add just £12.8m to their overall earnings.
In total, Arsenal earned £101m seeing them finish way ahead of the next biggest earners Man City who banked£96.8m. Tottenham Hotspur (£95m) and Manchester United (£96.3m) will also collect more than Leicester City who will take home £93m.
The Foxes did finish ahead of Liverpool and Chelsea though, who came in sixth and seventh place earning £90.4m and £87.1m respectively.
