Leftfield shout for Gunners midfielder in Mario Gotze’s dream five-a-side

Each to his own

Patrick McCarry

No goalkeeper and no Gotze himself. Good luck.

We love nothing better than picking the bones out of dream five-a-side selections. There is always room for debate… except for Andrea Pirlo’s well-round team.

Bayern Munich forward Mario Gotze has gone so far outside the box, though, that we have been scratching our heads all afternoon about it.

First up, Gotze does not believe goalkeepers are necessary. Perhaps Rafinha is handy with a pair of gloves on – sweeper keeper.

Gotze leaves himself out of the team, which he is perfectly entitled to do, but in selecting Jack Wilshere he has us bemused.

Sure, Wilshere is a top player, when he’s on form, but we can think of at least three Arsenal teammates that would do a better job in the narrow pitch confines than industrious Jack.
