Elche have set an unwanted record today by becoming the first side to be forcibly relegated from La Liga due to administrative problems.
The Valencian side finished in 13th place in Spain’s top division this season but will be playing their football in the Segunda Division come August after a judge made the decision that their failure to make certain payments to the tax office, as well as a lack of financial transparency, was enough to warrant Elche’s relegation.

A statement from the LFP also reveals that the club will be fined €180,000 but there is no confirmation about which side will take Elche’s place in the top division next season although it’s thought that Eibar, who finished in 18th place, will do so.
