Death. Taxes. Kylian Mbappe getting linked with Real Madrid
So that’s that then, yeah? Kylian Mbappe, despite month upon month of frenzied speculation, isn’t going to Real Madrid after all.
Instead, it was announced at the weekend that he will be staying put at Paris Saint-Germain, where he’s signed an extremely lucrative three-year extension which, if some reports are to be believed, gives him the power to hire and fire managers at will, move the Eiffel Tower into his back yard and buy at least three small countries to do whatever he wants with (some of that may not be true, but you get the gist).
Mbappe to Real Madrid back on
This, clearly, was quite a big deal for PSG. The mighty Real Madrid, rejected by a young man who just wants to ply his trade for his home town club. A real Qatari-funded underdog story.
We can all be glad, then, that it’s done with. In signing his new deal, a line has been drawn underneath this one, sparing us from the saga being dragged out for another couple of weeks.
Except, no. Not quite.

Despite committing the next three years of his career to PSG – what, three, four days ago? – Mbappe has now left the door ajar to a move to Real Madrid at some point in the future. Of course he has.
“You never know what can happen in the future,” he told Guillem Balague during an interview for the BBC.
“I give up to think about the future, I only think about the present and the present is, I signed a new contract for three years more at Paris St-Germain,” he added.
Asked if his new deal meant the chances of a move to Madrid were now over, he replied: “Never over.”
FFS, Kylian. Honestly. The French forward also spoke about holding ‘talks’ with Liverpool twice about a potential move to Anfield. ‘We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit,” Mbappe told The Telegraph.
“I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her. It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”
Mbappe marked new deal in style
The Frenchman is said to have sent an incredibly polite message to Florentino Perez explaining his reasons for rejecting Madrid before his new deal in Paris was inked.
After it was, he was paraded around the Parc des Princes by president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, before bagging a hat-trick in the final home game of the season against Metz, just to rub salt into Madrid wounds.
But it doesn’t matter. Mbappe to the Bernabeu is still on. It probably always will be.
