Kylian Mbappé can walk out on PSG contract early

The Mbappé saga is back again.

Kylian Mbappé’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is in doubt once again after it was reported that his contract will expire a year earlier than expected.

Mbappé signed a bumper £650,000 a week contract in May to end speculation over a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid last season.

Following confirmation of the new deal, Mbappé announced that he had agreed terms on a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 side and held a shirt which read: ‘Mbappé 2025’ on the back.

However L’Equipé have reported that the Frenchman only signed a two-year contract, with the option to extend it for an extra year.

This means that come the end of the season both Mbappé and the French club will be in the same predicament as they were 12 months ago, leaving PSG with the dilemma of either offering an extension or lose the 23-year-old for free.

Real Madrid tested the club’s resolve last year and submitted a £145m bid last year. Despite rejecting the bid, it was widely expected that Mbappé would join Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Mbappé has since remained quiet about the possibility of signing a new deal, insisting that now is not the time.

“This is neither the place nor the time and I am not the best person to answer this question. We are here to talk about a Champions League match,” he said before last week’s Champions League game against Juventus.

The forward has started the season strongly, scoring nine goals from seven games and boasts an incredible tally of 180 goals in  224 appearances.

Both MbappéMbappé and PSG are preparing for their second Champions League fixture against Maccabi Haifa in Israel on Wednesday.
