Juventus are reportedly trying sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Another summer, another Ronaldo transfer saga

Reuben Pinder

This would be the shock of the summer.

Every summer, Cristiano Ronaldo is linked with a move away from Real Madrid. It’s an effective way of forcing Madrid into offering him a new and improved contract regularly, especially if Ronaldo has played a big part in winning the Champions League that season.

However, as he gets older, Madrid will eventually stop giving him new contracts, and Ronaldo will become the boy who cried United. A report in the Spanish press recently said that Ronaldo’s release clause has been lowered from the obscene figure of €1bn to just €120m, which for a player of his quality actually represents decent value in the current market, despite him being 33.

Since then, the Italian press have gone big on a new story that Juventus are trying to sign Ronaldo from Madrid. According to Tuttosport and ASRonaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is laying the groundwork for a shock transfer that will see the player ditch Madrid for Turin.

Mendes has had a troublesome relationship with Juventus for the past 11 years, but the theory behind this rumour is that having sanctioned the transfer of João Cancelo from Valencia to Juve, he has smoothed things over with the Juventus hierarchy.

Ronaldo was knocked out of the World Cup on Saturday night as Portugal suffered a 2-1 defeat to Uruguay, courtesy of an Edinson Cavani brace.
