Video: Juventus supporters mark 30th anniversary of the Heysel disaster with powerful tribute

Three decades ago, 39 football supporters lost their lives.

“Nobody really dies if they live for ever in the hearts of those who remain.”

That is the English translation of the banner Juventus supporters unfurled before their final home game of the season against Napoli.

In the 39th minute, the Juventus faithful in the Curva Sud held aloft placards bearing the names of the 39 fans killed at the Heysel Stadium on 29 May 1985.

The night was later dubbed “the darkest hour in the history of Uefa competition” by former Uefa chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson. 32 victims from Italy, four from Belgium, two from France and one from Northern Ireland died when a wall collapsed following a charge by Liverpool supporters.
