“There’s an incredibly strong structure behind the scenes.”
Liverpool fans are mourning the pending departure of Jurgen Klopp, but the media are already looking at his potential successor, and the current manager weighed in on the conversation.
No sooner had the news broke that the German native would be stepping down at the end of the season did speculation start on who would be taking charge at Anfield this summer.
The usual suspects such as Steven Gerrard, and Pep Lijnders were mentioned for varying reasons, however, the stand out favourite is undoubtedly Xabi Alonso, the ex Red who is currently doing an incredible job at Bayern Leverkusen.
Jurgen Klopp weighs in on discussion about his successor as Liverpool manager.
Speaking at a press conference today, Klopp was asked if he would play any role in selecting his successor.
“No, I won’t do that,” Klopp said. “Look, that’s very important. In this world, in football especially, you have a few faces around, like Billy [Hogan], who do an incredible job and you rarely see.
“That’s just how you live this business. It looks like I do all the work – I can’t and I don’t. It means that all we’ve built over the last eight and a half years, there’s an incredibly strong structure behind the scenes.
“That means so many people work here and with only one idea – to find a perfect solution for Liverpool FC. I’m pretty sure that will happen.
“And the last thing they need is advice from the old man walking out saying ‘by the way, make sure you take him, bring him in’ or whatever. I will definitely not do that.
“For most things I have an opinion and you would not believe that for most things, I did not say anything. So I have no problem with that. I wish, for the future, this club, just the very, very, very best and for now, I can absolutely help them achieve the best possible.”
Liverpool CEO details the process the club will follow to select Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.
Billy Horgan the Club CEO has details the process that Liverpool will follow when it comes to selecting the next manager.
“We’ll go through the same process that brought us Jurgen almost nine years ago.
“We will do the process in private with, as Jurgen said, the ownership and when we have further news we can discuss it but it won’t be a running commentary. At this club we prefer to operate on only speaking when we know.
“We won’t get into the name game.”
