Jurgen Klopp is not ready to give in just yet

Crucial few weeks ahead

Sean McMahon

Liverpool need to get back to winning ways in the Premier League and fast.

Liverpool’s moral crushing 3-2 defeat to Swansea City at Anfield at the weekend resulted in them dropping to fourth in the Premier League table.

They are now 10 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea and if you consider the confidence that Antonio Conte’s side are displaying, it is safe to say that those 10 points represent an almost insurmountable gulf.

Liverpool’s defeat to Swansea caused reverberations around Merseyside as it was their first home defeat in 17 league matches.

The result and the performances which the players have put in for most of January led to Jurgen Klopp holding a special meeting with his squad in an attempt to prevent their league title ambitions from ending all together.

Well it seems that Klopp isn’t giving up on the Premier League title just yet. According to quotes in The Mirror, he believes that his team can still fight Chelsea for the title, even though they are 10 points adrift.

“We’re still close enough to fight for nearly everything….then if we are close enough to the top at the end of the season maybe we can fight for even more.”

However he does admit that Chelsea’s form is a cause for concern and that it is out of their control whether Conte’s side will slip up enough to allow Liverpool to be back in contention.

“OK, if Chelsea wins every game then we cannot fight, but for the rest we can.”

Klopp won’t have long to wait to to see if they can put a dent in Chelsea’s march to the title.

The Reds face Chelsea in their next Premier League game on January 31 and, a few days later, the runaway leaders will play host to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

One would imagine that the outcome of those two games in particular could well play a pivotal role in deciding who lifts the Premier League trophy at the end of the season.
