Jurgen Klopp not thrilled that Mo Salah travelled to London to collect award

Salah picked up his Player of the Year award on Thursday night

Jurgen Klopp is not best pleased that his talisman’s week was interrupted by a trip to London.

Mohamed Salah travelled to the capital on Thursday night to collect his Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award and Klopp maintains that it would have been more appropriate for the journalists who’d voted for him to receive the honour to venture up to Liverpool to do so.

Salah took a private jet to London shortly after after receiving Liverpool’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards at Anfield and while his manager made sure that the Reds’ top scorer was in bed early, Klopp admitted that the scheduling was less than ideal.

“I would prefer Mo went to bed early and watched a movie,” Klopp said at a press conference on Friday.

“But he was in bed early because that’s how we organised it. He deserved all of that praise, he is fine with that. He’s cool with managing all these requests.”

Liverpool need a win against Brighton on Sunday to guarantee a top-four finish and Salah, as he has been throughout the campaign, will likely prove crucial to the side’s success.

“I am absolutely not in the mood to praise anybody for the last few months,” Klopp added. “I am really in the mood to talk about Sunday. Everything Mo has done is fantastic but it’s all about Sunday.

“As a player there are so many challenges. The journalists took the boy to London on Thursday for a party.

“They should have come here. It’s a party, it’s a nice time, but for us it’s work. It’s an award Mo deserves but now it’s playing the game on Sunday.”
