Klopp hit back after he previously stated that he wasn’t looking forward to the game against Everton because of its ‘intensity.’

Jurgen Klopp responded in a fiery fashion after he was asked by reporters to elaborate on comments he made about the upcoming Merseyside derby.

Liverpool face city rivals Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday as they look to close the gap on league-leaders Chelsea, with the German previously admitting that he wasn’t looking forward to the game due to the physicality of the tie.

“It’s always a completely different game, so I really very often don’t like the intensity of the game, it’s too much for me,” he told Sky Sports after his side’s 4-0 win at home to Southampton last weekend.

“I like physical football, I have no problem with that, we play that, other teams play that, but in that game very often people put too much in. I can’t say it’s my favourite game of the year to be honest, because of that.

“But we have the chance to watch Everton tomorrow, we will prepare for the game and will try to make a normal but good football game.”

However, during his pre-match conference on Tuesday, Klopp wasn’t happy and insisted that his words had been perceived in the wrong way.

When asked, he said: “No, because you are all not able to write it in a proper way.

“I have nothing else to say about it. I said what I said. And that’s it. From that moment on, I prepare as normal for a football game.”

During the last meeting between the two at Everton’s ground, Virgil Van Dijk suffered a long-term injury after a late challenge from Jordan Pickford, whilst Richarlison was sent off and banned for 10 games for a late tackle on Thiago Alcantara.
