Jurgen Klopp makes history as he names Liverpool team to play Plymouth

Lucas Leiva is really driving the average up but, even with the veteran Brazilian, Liverpool have never fielded a younger team.

Jurgen Klopp has made several changes to his starting XI as he named a massively inexperienced team for the Reds’ FA Cup third round clash at home to Plymouth Argyle.

At 29, Lucas is far and away the elder statesman of the side which features a number of teenagers in the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Ovie Ejaria and Sheyi Ojo.

The youngest member of the XI is Ben Woodburn, the hugely promising 17-year-old who makes his first start for Liverpool today.

After a shaky start to life in England, goalkeeper Loris Karius returns to the fold while there is also a rare start for Spanish full back Alberto Moreno.

Klopp will be hoping for a lengthier spell in the competition this season as he could only bring the Reds to the fourth round of the FA Cup last season, when they were beaten in extra time of a replay with West Ham.

Plymouth Argyle, their opponents at Anfield this weekend, line up like this.
