Breaking news: Jurgen Klopp being Jurgen Klopp.
We’re not ones for stereotypes but apparently the Borussia Dortmund boss is.
Klopp reinforced an Italian football stereotype ahead of their Champions League clash tonight as he worries about Juventus’ comfort at keeping the Germans at bay and protecting their first leg lead.
Dortmund trail 2-1 heading into the deciding game at the Signal Iduna Park and Juventus being… well, Italian, Klopp reckons that will make his job of masterminding a victory all the more difficult.
“We are facing one of the biggest challenges in football; beating an Italian side who only need a draw,” he said.
But, whilst those classic 0-0 encounters might be second nature to the Italians in some people’s eyes, Klopp also stated that the Serie A champions are “not unbeatable”.
“If you want to beat Juve over two legs, you at least have to play outstanding in one match,” he said. “We did not do that in the first leg, so we have to do it tomorrow.
“We don’t need to beat them 9-0; a 1-0 is all we need. That’s possible. We just need a basic home win, and how can you advance without [a] home win anyway?”
