“I cannot believe how Nunez thinks he’s going to get away with that!” – Jamie Carragher

The striker received a straight red card.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said he was not happy with how Darwin Nunez reacted to a run-of-the-mill clash with Joachim Andersen that led to him getting sent off.

Nunez received a straight red card after sticking his head on the Crystal Palace, right in from of referee Paul Tierney. Following the game, which finished in a 1-1 draw, Jamie Carragher highlighted how Nunez had completely lost the run of himself before he butted Andersen.

“I didn’t see the incident,” said Liverpool captain James Milner. “Obviously, he’s going to be very disappointed with that.”

Klopp said Nunez was getting “provoked” by the Palace defender but it was nothing other than the usual tussles one would see in a Premier League encounter. The Reds boss said the reaction from his summer signing is not something he would like to see again.

“I cannot believe how he thinks he’s going to get away with that!”

Following the drawn game at Anfield, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said the hardest hit by the red card would be Darwin Nunez himself, as he would know he let his teammates down.

Carragher and fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville looked back on the 56th minute sending off and, with a fresh camera angle showed how Nunez had alerted the referee to his clash with Andersen before turning to stick that crude headbutt.

“When the referee is looking at him, I cannot believe how he can possibly think he’s going to get away with that, when he is remonstrating to the referee… he is looking straight at it. There is no other option for the referee.”

The red card to Nunez will be held up, and it will mean a three-game ban for the striker, including Liverpool’s game against Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp is already without Diogo Jota and possibly Roberto Firmino, so losing Nunez is the last thing the German needs.
