Jose Mourinho identifies two positions he wants to strengthen in transfer market

"I would like to have two more players"

Jose Mourinho has put his faith in Ed Woodward to sign up his targets before the transfer window comes to an end.

With 37 days left to get his business done, Mourinho is not panicking but he has acknowledged the fact that he would prefer to have his new signings with his squad sooner rather than later so that they can begin working with their teammates and acclimatise to his system before the Premier League season gets underway.

Speaking ahead of Manchester United’s preseason meeting with Barcelona, Mourinho insisted that Woodward was in control of the Red Devils’ transfer activity and admitted that a possibility exists where only one more player comes in before the August 31 deadline.

“I don’t know, honestly, Ed is in control, he did Lindelof and Lukaku, he knows that I would like two more players but he also knows that I have balance, I depend on the situation, the market, and if my club is unable to do two players and just one, I accept that as a consequence of the market now,” Mourinho said at Tuesday’s press conference, via Manchester Evening News.

“Our relationship is good and I just wait for good news, and good news is to have the players, maybe just the player as soon as possible because to work together with the team is really important.

“But I’m calm, I like my players, I like my squad, I trust them, so I’m calm and that’s important.”

Mourinho has identified two positions in his team that he feels he needs to strengthen and suggested that with the arrival of two new faces, United’s transfer window will be complete.

“I’m happy with my squad but I would like to have two more players, I never hide that, one player a midfield player would give me more options to the balance and the team,” Mourinho continued.

“Another one an attacking player, especially that can play through the wings to give me more attacking options but I never speak about players that belong to other teams.

“I don’t like if any manager comes and would say he would like one of my players, that’s not correct. I would like two more players but probably I only get one.”

United continue to be linked with players such as Ivan Perisic and Nemanja Matic (a winger and a midfielder) and it is likely those two names who Mourinho was alluding to although the likes of Renato Sanches, Gareth Bale and Fabinho have all been mentioned in the same breath as United in recent months.
