Jose Mourinho makes it pretty clear he wants Manchester United to spend a shit load this summer

Loud and clear

The season is over but the work is far from done.

Jose Mourinho has secured Champions League football for Manchester United but now his mission will be to convince his summer targets to join his project at Old Trafford.

Having brought in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly last summer, Mourinho wants to add even more quality if he is to move from EFL Cup and Europa League to FA Cup and Champions League.

Premier League improvement is also paramount to Mourinho’s legacy but it will require a lot of hard work on the training pitch and just as much work in the boardroom.

And Mourinho wasted no time in laying down the challenge to his club’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward.

Woodward’s job is to bring in the talent and Mourinho had no problem reminding him of his role during his post-match interview which immediately followed United’s 2-0 victory over Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

“Ed Woodward has my analysis, what I want, what I would like for more than two months,” Mourinho said.

“So now it’s up to him, to the owners and for the people who work with him. So I’ll just wait.

“But I don’t care about football for now.”

United have plenty of targets, chief among them Antoine Griezmann and James Rodriguez but they’ve also been linked with the Monaco trio of Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Fabinho.

It will be a busy summer ahead for United and an exciting one for the club’s supporters.

Your move, Woodward.
