Jose Mourinho makes a few big calls in his Manchester United side to face Spurs

Matthew Gault

Big decisions from Jose.

Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba both start for Manchester United as Jose Mourinho names his side for the FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham at Wembley.

Sanchez dropped to the bench for United’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Wednesday, with it being unclear whether the Chilean was being rested or dropped after an underwhelming display in the defeat to West Brom.

But Sanchez has been reinstated to the starting line-up, while Pogba lines up in midfield alongside Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera.

Anthony Martial drops to the bench having started the game at Bournemouth. Romelu Lukaku also returns after he came off the bench to score at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday.

Marcus Rashford will also be disappointed to miss out after starting the Bournemouth game as Mourinho has given the nod to Sanchez over the young England striker.

Some United fans, particularly those who feel the progress of Martial and Rashford has been impeded by Sanchez’s arrival, will not be happy at both being left on the bench. However, this is a big game and Mourinho has acted accordingly.

Here is Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs line-up. It’s a strong team on paper, with Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen likely to give the United defence plenty of headaches.

Michel Vorm has been given the nod in goal ahead of Hugo Lloris while Toby Alderweireld has been dropped to the bench after starting the 1-1 draw with Brighton.
