The reports of the possessions Jose Mourinho took with him after getting axed by Chelsea would make even the most humourless soul crack a smile.
New details have been revealed of Mourinho’s last hours at Stamford Bridge and it sounds like the plot of a sitcom Christmas special.
Mourinho began the afternoon eating roast turkey and pulling crackers with Chelsea’s coaching staff and players at the club’s silver service Christmas lunch.
He was summoned to a meeting with Roman Abramovich, chairman Bruce Buck and director Eugene Tenenbaum, according to both the Daily Mail and the Telegraph. The Special One reemerged less than 10 minutes later a free agent after concluding weeks of talks between Chelsea’s lawyers, Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes and the manager’s legal team over his £250,000-a-week contract.
The Daily Mail added that Mourinho left the club after it was confirmed he was out of a job with his belongings, including a life-size cardboard cut-out and a ‘Special One’ mug.
