Jose Mourinho could face legal action over 27 minute mega-rant on Goals on Sunday

The Special One could be in trouble

Mourinho’s lengthy tirade on Sky might have been a costly one

The Chelsea boss made a recent unscheduled appearance on Goals on Sunday in which he let loose on pretty much everyone from referees to Arsene Wenger to Sky Sports themselves. Allegedly James Beattie was given the heave-ho by Ben Shephard and Chris Kamara as Mourinho was rushed on to make a rant that lasted just under half an hour and dominated most media outlets’ sports coverage that day.

However, his embittered diatribe on the show landed him in trouble with BT. The broadcasters signed the Special One as its star ambassador this season and him appearing on Sky without BT’s consent might have breached his contract with the British channel.

It didn’t help matters that Mourinho’s memorable cameo completely overshadowed BT’s exclusive interview with Paul Gascoigne on the Fletch & Sav show.

BT has since closely examined its contract with the manager to establish whether him appearing on Goals on Sunday without getting prior consent was breaching the rules of his contract.

Mourinho’s representatives have argued that he did not need their approval because it was not a personal appearance. They contest that he carried it out as part of his duties as Chelsea manager, since the club own a percentage of his image rights.

BT have not yet indicated whether they plan on pursuing legal action or dropping the matter. It will be interesting to keep tabs on this story to see how this one plays out.
