Captain, leader, crooner?
Ah the age old tradition of the football initiation. Where would we be without it? Probably not having to endure a load of classic hits being brutally murdered by new signings stood on chairs, that’s where.
John Terry may have won pretty much everything there is to win at Chelsea, but that didn’t mean that the 36-year-old could get away with forgoing his rights of passage at new club Aston Villa.
The Midlands sleeping giants were in Portugal on a pre-season retreat when Terry was made to perform his initiation song, and the biggest surprise was that the former England captain can hold a note.
Belting out the Ben E. King classic ‘Stand By Me’, which enjoyed a second life when the film of the same name came out in 1987, Terry made a decent fist of it. Would he make it to boot camp? Probably not. But it’s a decent effort…
