John Caulfield asks for no homework in Cork in effort to get young fans to Turner’s Cross

Jack O'Toole

Cork City manager John Caulfield was quite scathing in his assessment of the lack of coverage in the League of Ireland at last month’s season launch at the Aviva Stadium.

The rebels boss bemoaned that the Presidents Cup only got four seconds of coverage on an eight minute RTE sports bulletin and also called for televised Thursday night matches.

Caulfield has some strong ideas on how to market the league and attract more viewers, much of which has to do with improvements in mainstream coverage, but he’s also willing to experiment with the local community.

As part of a plea to get younger fans to Cork’s upcoming match with Shamrock Rovers at Turner’s Cross, Caulfield has called on the teachers of Cork to scrap homework on Monday.

Cork have one of the most loyal fan bases in the League of Ireland and they are seemingly looking to bring younger supporters on board, even if there education has to temporarily be placed on hold.

Cork’s ‘no homework plea’ comes just over one week after Shamrock Rovers offered a slice pan with every season ticket sold during the midst of Storm Emma.
