“I know what I bring to the team” – Joe Hart issues statement on England exclusion

Wayne Farry

Joe Hart played every minute for England to qualify for Russia.

Joe Hart isn’t even one of three ‘keepers now going to Russia.

When Gareth Southgate announced his 23-man squad for this summer’s World Cup, it was evident that the England manager had made some difficult. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nick Pope found themselves on the plane, meaning that previous automatic starters Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere were left out of the team.

Wilshere has already joked about his exclusion and generally appears to have taken it on the chin, but Hart has so far remained silent other than faint reports suggesting that, obviously, he was quite disappointed.

On Instagram, the former England number one revealed that he is “gutted”, while essentially admitting that while he disagrees with the decision, “it is what it is”.

Not going to lie, I’m gutted. After 2 years of trying to make the most of a really tough situation, this is hard to take. I’m proud to have put in the graft and play every minute to qualify with the team and have a really important input in that outcome. I know what I bring to the team, but it is what it is. Good luck to the team out there, the players know that even though I won’t be there, I will have my England shirt on as a fan this time and supporting all the way.
No fear, go and smash it. ??? and proud x
