This move appears to have come out of nowhere.
João Cancelo is set for a surprise Manchester City exit after they agreed on a deal with Bayern Munich.
According to The Athletic, Cancelo will join the Bundesliga giants on loan until the end of this season, with the deal likely to include an option to buy.
Cancelo has fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola and has failed to start any of the last three games in all competitions for the Premier League champions.
The defender, who has featured in the two most recent PFA Premier League Team of the Year, played 36 times for Man City last season.
However the likes of Kyle Walker and young talent Rico Lewis have been preferred, as well as John Stones and Nathan Are, who have also been deployed in the full-back position.
If Cancelo completes his move before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, he will be able to feature for Bayern in their German Cup clash against Mainz on Wednesday, or in this weekend’s Bundesliga fixture against Wolfsburg on Sunday.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side have struggled for form since their return from the winter break and have allowed the likes of Union Berlin, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Freiburg to move to within three points of them at the top of the table.
