The football season is back and so is Jeff Stelling. All is well with the world.
After marking the return of Soccer Saturday last weekend with a cheeky dig at BT Sport last weekend, Jeff kicked off this weekend’s show with a concise but absolutely perfect summary of what has happened in the world of football since the end of last season.
Beginning with Louis van Gaal’s FA Cup triumph and sacking, he touches on a number of issues including Arsenal’s failure to sign Jamie Vardy, England’s Euro 2016 failings (*and* Harry Kane’s corners) and the world record transfer of Paul Pogba from Juventus to Manchester United.
He barely pauses for breath.
The first Premier League match of the season finished with Hull defeating champions Leicester City 2-1. The newly-promoted side have had a turbulent summer with Steve Bruce, the man that steered them back into the top flight, leaving the club.
With just thirteen senior players fit enough for selection by caretaker manager Mike Phelan, a Robert Snodgrass goal on 57 minutes was enough to give them the perfect start.
As for Leicester, they will look to record their first win of the season when they face Arsenal at the King Power Stadium next week.
