Jaysus, lads. The poor fella doesn’t score that much.
Jan Vertonghen’s celebrations were cut short this afternoon after the defender’s injury time goal was ruled out for an offside that no-one in the planet saw – apart from the linesman.
The Spurs defender burst forward on the break as Sunderland threw the kitchen sink in search of an equaliser and, despite starting a good five or six yards inside his own half when the ball to him was played, the assistant raised his flag and denied the Belgian the credit for the goal he slid in to the empty net with Pantilimon at the other end of the field.
Christian Eriksen scored what was the eventual winner in the 88th minute but Vertonghen should’ve had his name on the score sheet for a second time in the game but for this too-close-to-call decision going against him…

We think the linesman got too excited with knowing the rules that, regardless if the ‘keeper is there or not, the attacker must be behind or level with the SECOND last man, whomever he is. He just forgot that the attacker has to be in the bloody opposition half for that rule to even begin to apply.
But look at the referee’s position there. Look at it!
