Arsenal fans are sure to like the sound of this. Not only did Jamie Vardy reject a move to The Emirates this summer, he also claims it was an easy decision to turn it down.
Vardy was strongly linked with a switch to the London club, weeks after his goals helped fire Leicester City to Premier League glory.
In the end, he opted to stay put at the King Power Stadium, deciding against signing a reported £120,000-a-week deal with Arsene Wenger’s side. In an interview with BT Sport, he’s now explained why this was.
“Every time I thought about it, my heart and head were coming to the same answer, which was to stay,” the 29-year-old said.
“That was exactly what I wanted to do so it’s exactly what I did.
“I had a lot of time while I was sat in a hotel doing nothing, so it was easy to think about it then and easy to put the pen to paper.”
Along with Vardy, Arsenal were also linked with his Leciester teammate, Riyad Mahrez, who also appears to be staying with the champions. With both players expected to feature for Claudio Ranieri’s side against Arsenal this evening, many football fans seemed braced for the inevitable as both sides search for their first points of the new campaign.
