Jamie Carragher will return to Sky Sports next season

Jamie Carragher will return to his role with Sky Sports next season.

Carragher has been suspended by the broadcaster since March after footage emerged of the pundit spitting in the direction of a car carrying a 14-year-old girl and her father.

The former Reds defender reacted in an unseemly manner after he was goaded by rival fans following Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United on 10 March.

“It is my biggest regret, of course, all of it is, getting involved in that situation,” Carragher said of the incident.

“All I can do now is apologise, I can’t go back. I’ve done that with the family, hopefully they accept that. Obviously, I’d like to apologise to them again, if possible.”

After apologising to the family, he was suspended from punditry duties for the remainder of the Premier League season.

But the Daily Mail reports that Carragher will continue to provide his analysis to Sky Sports next term but has been given a final warning about his behaviour.

A Sky spokesman said:

“We’ve spoken to Jamie and reminded him of the standards we expect at Sky Sports. He has shown remorse, is hugely apologetic for the offence he caused and has taken the appropriate steps to make sure that the incident will not be repeated.”
