Jamie Carragher has done his best to lower Liverpool fans’ expectations of their latest signing next season.
Liverpool legend Carragher has weighed in his opinion on the club’s acquisition of Danny Ings.
The Reds confirmed on Monday that the 22-year-old Burnley striker would become their second signing of the window, after they snapped up James Milner from Man City last week.
Carra admitted being pleased over seeing fresh faces in the squad after a disappointing 2014/15 campaign. He also had high hopes for Ings, who he thinks will fill the “Borini role”, but do a much better job of it than the Italian striker has thus far at Anfield.
“I think Ings will take the role of Borini in the squad & will provide more than he has, that will probably come in the Europa league & Capital one cup to start with then it will be up to him to show if he deserves to start more.”
Liverpool will certainly be hoping the Englishman will be able to better Borini’s less than stellar record of scoring just a solitary goal in 18 appearances last season.
