Jamie Carragher’s brilliant response to Pep Guardiola saying he’s never won the Premier League

Charlie Herbert

‘I’d have probably won one if Liverpool were owned by a nation state!’

Jamie Carragher has hit back at Pep Guardiola after the Manchester City manager pointed out that the former footballer never won the Premier League.

On Tuesday, Pep called out Carragher and some of his fellow Sky Sports pundits in a lengthy monologue after some accused Man City of complacency.

This was following their 3-3 draw with Tottenham on Sunday.

Guardiola was pointing out that City are attempting to make history this season by winning a fourth consecutive league title. The manager said this was something that none of Carragher, Gary Neville or Micah Richards had achieved.

“Gary Neville knows how difficult it is otherwise he would’ve won four Premier Leagues in the best period of Manchester United,” Guardiola said.

“But he didn’t do it. Maybe they accuse us of complacency because they felt complacency [at United]. Maybe they felt it. This team so far, no chance.

“Jamie Carragher didn’t win one. Micah Richards didn’t win four Premier Leagues in a row. Never, ever. It’s never happened.”

Pep Guardiola added: “I don’t have anything to say about the pundits, honestly. It’s not about that [complacency].

“Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think it’s about complacency.” In response, Jamie Carragher posted on X:

“I think I’d have probably won one if Liverpool were owned by a nation state, and pushed the rules so far that the PL charged us 115 times!!”

He added that he had actually been praising the reigning Premier League champions in his analysis.

Manchester City currently sit third in the Premier League, six points behind Arsenal in first but with a game in hand on the Gunners. Pep’s side are next in action on Wednesday evening as they travel to Villa Park to take on Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
