Jamie Carragher is Twitter’s new God after lashing Arsenal celebrations on MNF

Calm down calm down, etc.

It was all going so well

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville spent almost 10 minutes of Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football praising Arsenal for their 2-0 win over Manchester City, only for the former Liverpool defender to un-do his bridge building.

Carragher, who has criticised Arsenal’s softness against top four opposition in the past, was complimentary of the Gunners’ organisation and defensive steel in their Premier League win. But… there was a but. Carragher blasted Arsenal’s players for taking, and posting, celebratory pictures from the away dressing room after their win.

He proclaimed, ‘It’s something that winding me up in football, this nonsense, of team pictures and social media after games in the dressing room. You normally have this stuff with a cup, you see this everywhere, it’s not just Arsenal. It’s absolute nonsense, stop doing it.’

Carragher continued, ‘It’s like the type of picture you put on your mantle piece in 10 years time. Your son comes in, “Oh what’s that? We won away at Man City”.’

Carragher called on Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger to stamp the snap/tweet-happy culture out of his side. Gunners fans were quick to point out similar, over the top celebrations from his former Liverpool teammates after they beat Aston Villa 2-0 at the weekend. For the most part, though, Twitter raised ‘Carra’ on its collective shoulders for a lap of social media honour.

UPDATE: Carragher posted this tweet soon after MNF wrapped up its live broadcast.
