Jamie Carragher and Danny Simpson’s Twitter back-and-forth got ugly pretty quickly

The two had an interesting back and forth on Twitter...

Paul Moore

It all began after the Leicester City defender questioned the Liverpool legend about his decision to wear an Everton training top while filming for Sky Sports.

One of the main reasons why Jamie Carragher has excelled in his role as a Sky Sports pundit is his refusal to sugarcoat the truth, or shy away from an argument. Two character traits that he also adopts on Twitter.

If you happen to follow the Liverpool icon on social media, then you’ll know that he’s more than capable of giving as good as he gets. This was perfectly illustrated in a recent discussion that he had with Leicester City defender Danny Simpson.

Nobody could ever question Carragher’s devotion, commitment and love for the red jersey of Liverpool, but like many Anfield icons that grew up on Merseyside, the defender was actually a boyhood Evertonian.

Ahead of the meeting between Spurs and Everton at the weekend, the Champions League winning centre-half recently took part in a finishing masterclass with Everton striker Romelu Lukaku that’s going to air in the pre-match segment, but his choice of training gear inevitably got people talking.

Again, it’s worth stating that Carra’ is a TV personality. Emphasis on the word ‘personality’ here because it’s clear that the Liverpool defender was more than willing to make himself the subject of some playful fun by donning the colours of ‘the enemy’.

One of the highest profile people to offer their opinion on Carragher wearing the Everton colours was former Manchester United defender Danny Simpson.

Have a read of their conversation below.

We can’t help but think that there might be a friendly bit of needle between the pair, especially considering Carragher’s highly praised views on Claudio Ranieri’s recent sacking.

Following the sacking of Ranieri, Carragher’s reply questioned the reasons why there was a marked improvement in Leicester’s performance levels against Liverpool.

Simpson then whipped out the oldest joke that you can use about a Liverpool player…

…to which Carragher replied.

Another reminder from Simpson that he has a certain medal in his trophy cabinet.

Another request from Jamie about the Seville performance.

Maybe Gary Neville can be the referee and sort out a peace deal?
